Overview

Great Wall Restaurant, nestled in Elkridge, Maryland, offers a reliable and satisfying destination for classic Chinese takeout. Located conveniently on Washington Boulevard, it serves up a variety of dishes that resonate well with both local residents and business visitors looking for quick, flavorful meals.

The restaurant’s ambience leans practical rather than ornate, with limited seating that suggests a focus on efficient takeout service. Patrons like Patrick appreciate the straightforward setup paired with friendly service, making it an ideal spot for those on the go rather than a leisurely sit-down experience.

Great Wall’s menu highlights showcase traditional Chinese favorites, from crispy egg rolls and savory fried dumplings to house specialties like General TSO’s Chicken and shrimp or chicken lo mein. Their Egg Foo Young variations stand out, blending eggs with a mix of vegetables and meats to craft hearty, satisfying plates. For noodle lovers, the House Special Lo Mein and the combination lo mein deliver generous portions with balanced flavors.

Special mention goes to the dish variety that extends beyond the norm, such as the Chicken Broccoli, Kung Pao Chicken, and Old Bay Shrimp, which bring regional twists to familiar tastes. Reviewers note that some appetizers, like the teriyaki beef skewers and kung pao shrimp, reveal a distinct freshness and skillful preparation, highlighting the kitchen’s attention to detail.

Customer feedback indicates consistency in core dishes, though some variability occurs in certain items like Chicken Chop Suey and seafood preparations. Dumplings receive particular praise for their homemade feel, which sets the Great Wall apart from other local eateries relying on frozen alternatives.

Overall, Great Wall Restaurant caters primarily to takeout customers who seek well-crafted Chinese cuisine without unnecessary fuss. Its combination of traditional flavors, quick service, and strategic location make it a dependable choice for casual meals, especially for those working or visiting the Elkridge area.

If you want great food for takeout and a great price, this is the place. Nice ownets. There are a few tables but this is not a place to have a sit-down dinner. I visit here every time I am here on business.

Found this spot based off reviews in the area. Classic Chinese food that was pretty good. Would definitely eat here again. Called in order and was ready in 15 minutes! Wouldn’t expect less from Chinese restaurant. This restaurant is worth checking out.

I wish we had taken pictures. The food was absolutely incredible! We ordered chow mein with crispy noodles, sweet and sour chicken, fried pork dumplings, and an order of donuts. We ordered larges and they did not disappoint. Large servings, great food, and great service.

Typical local Chinese takeout place. Mostly same food. However, found a couple standout dishes: Kung Pow Shrimp (pic, covered in peanuts) is actually really good, my new favorite. Shrimp Curry (pic) is delicious and salty. Teriyaki Beef Skewers app was delicious, a surprise win. Chicken Skewers good, but beef better so tender, juicy. House Special Singapore Noodles (pic) usually quite good if you like yellow curry. Notice the two yellow noodle pics are about a year apart (2022 / 2023) and the shrimp in the ladder pic are much smaller and very few in the dish. Is that right Chicken Chop Suey was quite good one time and nasty another time. Tasty and not dried out. Seafood Soup (large only) was pretty good (pic). Would order again to share. General Tso & Sesame Chicken were decent, but like every Chinese restaurant there is two times more breading and syrup than necessary. The meat inside was I think mostly thigh meat. Some nice, good big pieces. Half pound Old Bay shrimp app is small, peel shrimp w some onions and celery. Seem mushy like boiled instead of steamed. Not best quality and small shrimp. PASS. Their Hot & Sour soup (pic) was a bit lackluster and taste, so I added some Sriracha when I got home. Subgum Wonton was pretty good. Lots of veg & shrimp & chicken thrown in the broth with wonton. Baby corns tasted pretty bad tho. Did NOT like: Shrimp in Lobster Sauce, Brocolli in Garlic Sauce, Green Triple Delight.

After being disappointed by a lot of other Chinese restaurants in the area, finally found a place that seems like they make their dumplings rather than getting them from the frozen aisle at Food Lion. The other food ive gotten from here was good too, but the dumplings are amazing.

This is our go to Chinese takeout since we moved here in MD. The lady in front of the counter is nice and friendly taking orders. We usually order the General Tso's Chicken and we asked for extra spicy, Chicken Lo Mein, and Fried Chicken Wings.

The lunch portions are a great deal! You get a large amount of food for a decent price. The food is good. Not the greatest I have ever had but it is good. My biggest complaint would be the noise while waiting for my food. Two men who worked there were yelling at each other very loudly. As someone with PTSD , the yelling and loudness was very stressful. Next time I will definitely call ahead so I can get in and out quickly.
